💡 Media Comparison

SpringWell CF1

The SpringWell CF1 combines catalytic carbon and KDF media – two popular media options for tank-based filtration systems for city water. The media traps and adsorbs contaminants like chlorine, chloramine, herbicides, pesticides, and PFOAs. Upstream of the main tank, a sediment pre-filter traps contaminants larger than 5 microns, preventing them from damaging the filter media.

The CF1 has a 4-stage proprietary design that extends the contact time between water and the filter media. We were impressed with how thoroughly the system filtered our water, thanks to its anti-channeling technology.

Springwell cf whole house water filter catalytic carbon and kds media

SpringWell Well Water Filter System

The SpringWell Well Water Filter System removes iron and similar contaminants with a natural, chemical-free process called air injection oxidation. AIO technology uses a media-based tank that contains an air pocket at the top.

Water is sent through the air pocket as soon as it enters the tank. This introduces oxygen into the water, converting contaminants like iron into a soluble form. Water then travels down through the tank, and the impurities are trapped in the media. Periodically, the system backwashes, removing the accumulated contaminants from the media.

The SpringWell Well Water Filter System comes with a 100-micron spin-down sediment filter that should be installed upstream of the main tank, preventing damage to the media.

Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series Whole House Water Filter System

The Aquasure Pro Series uses a “mix media” that combines granular activated carbon (GAC) and KDF filtration to adsorb and trap contaminants like chlorine, chloramine, herbicides, pesticides, and VOCs.

The KDF media prevents the growth of bacteria, providing safely-filtered water for years. The media is further protected by a 30-micron pleated sediment filter, which traps large particles and prevents them from damaging the later filtration stages.

Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series Media

Aquasure Fortitude V Series 2 Stage Whole House Water Filter

The Aquasure Fortitude V Series 2 Stage Whole House Water Filter is a cartridge filter that comes in two sizes: 10-inch and 20-inch.

The system consists of a pleated sediment filter cartridge and a carbon block filter cartridge. There’s no new, untested technology here – pleated sediment and carbon block filters are two of the most reliable and commonly-used filters in whole-home cartridge-based systems.

The carbon block filter adsorbs contaminants like chlorine, chloramine, pesticides, and herbicides, while the sediment filter traps large particles of 30 microns or smaller in size.

🧫 What Contaminants Do They Remove?

SpringWell CF1

The SpringWell CF1 filtration system uses different filter media to target common city water supply contaminants:

  • The sediment filter targets clay, sand, and silt
  • The catalytic carbon media targets chlorine, chloramine, pesticides, herbicides, and VOCs
  • The KDF media targets chlorine and harmful chemicals

The CF1 is designed to thoroughly remove a small set of the most common drinking water contaminants, rather than target hundreds of contaminants.

Springwell cf1 contaminants removed

SpringWell Well Water Filter System

The SpringWell Well Water Filter System filters three common well water impurities:

  • Up to 8 PPM hydrogen sulfide
  • Up to 7 PPM iron
  • Up to 1 PPM manganese

If your water has an orange tinge and you have reddish stains in your toilet bowl and bathtub, or your water has a rotten egg smell, you’re dealing with the contaminants that the SpringWell Well Water Filter is designed to remove.

The SpringWell Water Filter’s 100-micron spin-down sediment filter removes another common well water contaminant: large particles of sediment.

Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series Whole House Water Filter System

The Aqusure Pro Series targets virtually the same contaminants as the CF1:

  • The sediment filter traps dirt, dust, rust, silt, and sand
  • The GAC and KDF media target chloramine, chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, taste, odor, and VOCs, and inhibit scale and bacteria growth

Like the SpringWell CF1, the Aquasure Pro Series isn’t designed to remove as many contaminants as possible. Instead, it removes the most common impurities in a city water supply.

Aquasure Fortitude V Series 2 Stage Whole House Water Filter

The Aquasure Fortitude V Series removes a similar selection of city water impurities:

  • The sediment filter traps dust, rust, dirt, silt, and sand
  • The carbon block filter greatly reduces chlorine, chemicals, and impurities affecting water’s taste and odor

The Aquasure Fortitude V Series isn’t quite as capable as the Fortitude Pro Series, which removes more contaminants thanks to its KDF media.

🚦 Performance Comparison

SpringWell CF1

We were very pleased with the SpringWell CF1’s performance – and, in fact, the filtration system is one of the best whole house water filters we have tried to this date.

The CF1 targets all of the common impurities that are likely to affect the quality of your city water supply. It does this quickly, with a decent flow rate of 9 GPM, which shouldn’t affect your water pressure.

We noticed an improvement in the taste of our water after installing the CF1. The system removed virtually all chlorine, eliminating the chemical flavor and giving our water a fresher taste.

SpringWell Well Water Filter System

The SpringWell Well Water Filter System’s flow rates start at 12 GPM for the smallest system. That’s more than enough to maintain your current water flow, and our water pressure barely dropped at all after installing this system.

We were impressed with the SpringWell Well Water Filter System’s contaminant removal, too. Most air injection systems on the market are only effective in removing one contaminant, while the SpringWell system removes high levels of both iron and hydrogen sulfide, and low levels of manganese.

If you’re looking to address iron or manganese (or both) in your water, the SpringWell Well Water Filter System is the only system you need.

Springwell versus aquasure

Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series Whole House Water Filter System

Considering just how affordable the Aquasure Pro Series is, we were skeptical about the system’s performance. But we were pleasantly surprised with its ability to reduce a wide range of contaminants with virtually no impact on our water pressure.

The smallest system (for homes with 2-3 bathrooms) has a flow rate starting at 12 GPM, so you shouldn’t notice a decrease in water flow after installing this unit. Our water tasted better after we’d installed the Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series, although we didn’t see a complete elimination in chlorine taste.

Aquasure Fortitude V Series 2 Stage Whole House Water Filter

Cartridge filters are known to have slow flow rates, so we were impressed by the Aquasure Fortitude V Series’ fast-flow sediment and carbon filter. The system is advertised to have a flow rate of 12 GPM, but we’d say it was closer to 10 GPM – still good for a cartridge-based system.

Our testing found that the V Series did its job and removed contaminants affecting water’s taste and odor. Our water tasted much cleaner, with no lingering chemical aftertaste, after installing this system. Being able to change each filter separately also meant that we could maintain our water quality more consistently.

💲 Models & Upfront Cost

SpringWell CF Systems

The CF systems start at just $1600 – a more affordable price than most whole house water filter systems. If value for money is your top priority, you won’t get better than the SpringWell CF models.

SpringWell Well Water Filter System

The SpringWell Well Water Filter Systems are priced slightly higher than the average air injection oxidation system, costing around $4,000 to $5,000. Considering you get a guaranteed quality performance from a top brand, we think the price is fair – but probably still out of some people’s budgets.

Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series Whole House Water Filter System

The Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series is one of the most affordable whole house water filters we’ve seen, starting at just $900 for the 600,000-gallon model. Even the biggest 1,500,000-gallon model costs $1,200 – that’s the same price as the smallest SpringWell CF1.

Aquasure Fortitude V Series 2 Stage Whole House Water Filter

The Aquasure Fortitude V Series 2 Stage Whole House Water Filter comes in two sizes: a 10-inch system (costing around $250) and a 20-inch system (costing about $300). If you’ve been doing your research into whole-house cartridge filters, you’ll know that this is great value for money.

📆 Filter Lifespan & Replacement Costs

SpringWell CF1

The SpringWell CF media lasts for about a decade, with a lifespan of 1 million gallons. The sediment filter is the only part of the system that needs semi-regular maintenance – it has a lifespan of 6-9 months.

The CF replacement media is currently priced at around $335. Considering this is a payment you’ll only need to make once every 10 years, we think this is fair.

The SpringWell 1-inch sediment filter is about $80, and you’ll need to buy replacement filters up to twice per year.

SpringWell Well Water Filter System

The SpringWell Well Water Filter System uses a greensand media that lasts for 18-25 years. The system itself apparently lasts this long, too – so you shouldn’t have to perform maintenance at all during the system’s lifespan.

The spin-down sediment filter is self-cleaning, which is another maintenance bonus. It should last longer than a standard cartridge sediment filter; usually around 12-24 months. You can buy a new spin-down filter from SpringWell for around $100.

Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series Whole House Water Filter System

The Aquasure Fortitude Pro Series’ carbon and KDF media last for 8-10 years. Replacement media isn’t available to buy online. This probably means that you need to buy a completely new system when the media runs out – but contact Aquasure to be certain.

The sediment filter has a long lifespan of 12 months, as long as it’s washed out frequently. The filter costs about $28, which is a fair price for a sediment filter.

Aquasure Fortitude V Series 2 Stage Whole House Water Filter

The Aquasure Fortitude V Series only has two filter cartridges to worry about: the sediment filter, which lasts up to 12 months, and the carbon block filter, which lasts up to 12 months. Note that the exact filter lifespan depends on whether you buy the 10-inch or 20-inch system – the 10-inch filters only last for 6 months.

The replacement 20-inch sediment filter costs around $28, and the replacement carbon block filter costs $40. A total annual cost of around $70 isn’t bad, but keep in mind that cartridge filters don’t always last as long as they’re advertised to – it depends on your water usage.

Performance comparision of springwell ss and aquasure harmony series

Aquasure Harmony Series Whole House Water Softener System

The Aquasure Harmony Series is a decent water softening system for water that’s moderately hard to very hard. There are three models available: the AS-HS32D (32,000 grains), AS-HS48D (48,000 grains), and AS-HS64D (64,000 grains). We purchased the AS-HS32D for this review.

The AS-HS32D is a traditional two-tank salt-using water softener, consisting of a brine tank and a resin tank. The unit can remove up to 110 grains of hardness minerals, and can be used for both city and well water. If your water contains iron, the AS-HS32D can remove a small amount of this mineral (up to 2 PPM).

🧫 Contaminants Removed

SpringWell Reverse Osmosis Drinking System

The SpringWell Reverse Osmosis Drinking System removes all salts, minerals, ions, sediment, and contaminants from drinking water.

Some of the impurities this system can remove are:

  • Chlorine
  • Chloramine
  • Lead
  • Fluoride
  • Pesticides
  • Herbicides
  • Mercury
  • Iron
  • Arsenic
  • Aluminum
  • Disinfection byproducts

We’d love to see a report or datasheet online that told us exactly what the SpringWell Reverse Osmosis Drinking System removes, and to what percentage, but this isn’t available at the moment.

Aquasure Premier Advanced Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System AS-PR75A

The Aquasure AS-PR75A removes up to 99.9% of drinking water contaminants, including chlorine, heavy metals, viruses, bacteria, fluoride, and “thousands more”, according to Aquasure (again, there’s no datasheet available online to validate this claim).

Each stage of filtration targets a different set of contaminants:

  • The sediment filter targets dirt, dust, and rust
  • The 5-micron carbon block filter absorbs chlorine, VOCs, tastes, and odors
  • The RO membrane removes 99.9% of total dissolved solids
  • The post-carbon filter polishes water and adds sweetness

🚦 Efficiency Ratio & Performance

SpringWell Reverse Osmosis Drinking System

The SpringWell Reverse Osmosis Drinking System offers the thorough performance you’d expect from a reverse osmosis system. In our testing, the unit greatly improved our water quality by decreasing our TDS. The combined performance of the sediment filter, a carbon filter, a semi-permeable membrane, and carbon post-filter removed the majority of contaminants from our water supply.

We can’t share efficiency ratio information for this system because it isn’t available online, but the user manual states that the efficiency rating of the membrane is 23.16%. This doesn’t explain how many gallons of water are wasted for every gallon produced.

We were pleased with the speed of filtration in this RO system. The unit can filter up to 75 gallons of water in a single day. It’s a traditional reverse osmosis design, with a storage tank that holds purified water and gives instant access to this water when the faucet is switched on. We were able to fill a glass of water in under 10 seconds after installing this unit.

Performance comparision of springwell ro system and aquasure as-pr75a

Aquasure Premier Advanced Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System AS-PR75A

The Aquasure AS-PR75A is another impressively-performing reverse osmosis system. Our testing showed that the system completely removes impurities contributing to salinity, poor taste, and turbidity. The speed of filtration was good, too, and the unit provides 75-100 gallons of filtered water per day, depending on the size you buy. The storage tank ensures you always have instant access to purified water.

The water waste ratio of this system is 1:3, meaning that 3 gallons of water are wasted for every 1 gallon produced. This isn’t the best wastewater ratio available today – some systems have a 1:2 or even 1:1 ratio – so keep in mind that a lot of water will be wasted during filtered water production in the AS-PR75A.

Although Aquasure is a promising brand, it just doesn’t have the same reputation as SpringWell. Our testing found that SpringWell’s water softening system, whole house filtration system, and reverse osmosis system fulfilled their intended purposes more effectively than Aquasure’s products.

When it comes to reliability, durability, and performance, SpringWell is a hit with customers – and we can see why. In our testing, we were pleased with the instant improvements to the quality of our water supply, with more noticeable results than Aquasure’s systems.

The Aquasure products are still capable, and they are cheaper, but their value for money doesn’t compare to SpringWell’s. Some customers also complained about quality issues with Aquasure’s systems. We noted that SpringWell’s products were better-quality, more durable, and more positively reviewed by customers on the whole.
