A boil water notice has been issued to all residents in the City of Madisonville, KY, after total coliform and E. coli bacteria were detected in the main water supply.

The notice was issued yesterday (Wednesday, September 15), with bacteria reportedly being discovered in the Homewood subdivision in the City.

In a Facebook post, City officials said that two further samples were taken in the area, and came back negative. However, as a precautionary measure, customers must boil their water for 24 hours.

The notice applies to residents using public water across the whole City. Because there is no water break, residents only need to wait until further testing shows negative results for bacteria before water is deemed safe to drink again.
