🧾 Overview
The APEX MR10-50 Countertop Drinking Water Filter is a countertop alkaline water filtration system for producing healthier, safer drinking water. It does what it’s advertised to do – filter out chlorine, getting rid of any bad taste or odor, while increasing drinking water’s pH to approximately 7 to 8.
Aside from chlorine, the APEX countertop water filter also removes additional substances commonly found in tap water, like heavy metals, benzene and other microorganisms. It adds healthy minerals, like magnesium, potassium and calcium back into the water, giving it an enjoyable alkaline taste.
💡 Features
Faucet adapter & connection hose
The APEX MR10-50 water filter needs to be attached to your kitchen sink to work, and it comes with all the tools you’ll need for doing so. Just ask for a faucet adapter if you need one – the options are 13/15”-55/64” and 15/16”-55-64”, so make sure these adapters will fit your kitchen faucet before making a purchase.
5-stage filtration system
Including a MicroFlet Pad, a 5 Micron KDF Layer, a Granular Activate Carbon Layer, a Calcite Layer and an Alkaline Layer. This system is the main hub in which tap water is filtered and remineralized.
Filter housing unit
The actual body of the APEX water filter is slim and compact in size, and can easily be stored against the wall behind a kitchen sink.
Instructions manual
The APEX MR10-50 water filter is one of the easier water filtration systems to install, but you may want to check instructions to make sure you’re doing everything properly. You’ll find everything you need to know in MR10-50’s user manual.
🚦 Performance
The APEX MR10-50 certainly gives under-sink water filters a run for their money with its performance abilities. During its lifespan, this unit produces noticeably different changes in water, especially water with cloudiness and pour taste. The 5-stage filtration thoroughly removes chlorine and other contaminants – though it doesn’t remove fluoride, so look elsewhere if that’s what you’re after.
Water flow from a faucet is a little slow, but not to an annoying level. Generally, the filters work fast at their job, and the remineralization filter is particularly effective. If you want to test this, you can do a pH test (or check out the customer reviews, where many people have done one themselves). This will give a reading of your water’s alkalinity after passing through the MR10-50 – for most people, it comes out at between 7 and 8.5.
🔧 Installation & Maintenance
As a countertop water filter system, the APEX filter doesn’t require installation. It comes already set up, and the work you have to do can be carried out by yourself. You’ll just need to connect the system to an existing faucet at your kitchen sink. If your faucet isn’t the right size to connect to the unit, you can request one of two faucet adapters from the manufacturer.
In most cases, you’ll be able to simply attach the faucet connector to the end of your faucet, turning it until it’s tight. Once you’ve done this, you should run water through the system to produce several glasses worth, by which time it’ll be safe to drink.
A clear bonus of the APEX MR10-50 is that it’s portable, and you can easily move it from one sink to the next if you’re moving house or taking a vacation. You don’t need a plumber to dismantle and reinstall the unit – the job takes five minutes and can be done by anyone.
After every 750 gallons, you’ll be expected to replace the filter cartridge, which you can buy online. Here’s where you might encounter problems. A number of customers reported finding it so difficult to open the filter housing that they were forced to purchase a whole new unit rather than just the filter. However, the majority of these reviews date back a couple of years, so this design flaw may have been improved by the manufacturer by now.
📝 Filter Info
The MR10-50’s filter consists of 5 stages of filtration, which we’ll discuss in more detail below.
- MicroFlet Pad – this removes larger particles of sediment, like sand, dust and rust.
- 5 Micron KDF Layer – which reduces microorganisms and heavy metals.
- Granular Activate Carbon Layer – this removes chlorine and chloramines, improving taste.
- Alkaline Layer – which remineralizes the water with potassium and magnesium.
- Calcite Layer – this adds calcium back into the water.
This APEX filter is more advanced than standard countertop water filters in that it re-introduces minerals into the water that have been filtered out. It’s not necessary to have these minerals, but they contribute to water’s alkalinity and can greatly improve taste. Many people prefer to drink alkaline water, and the MR10-50 has found a way to make this possible while still ensuring clean drinking water.
